Series Overview
We have all been through a period in our life (or will be one day) when we wonder if God is listening, if God cares, if God is going to do anything about our current situation. When we suffer, we ask a myriad of questions, and often come up empty (or we hear answers that don’t ring true or compassionate). While this series does not attempt to perfectly explain why we suffer, it provides perspective, hope, and some help on what to do in the midst of suffering, how to suffer well, and what God might be trying to do in the middle of your ‘desert’ experience.
This is a series about character transformation. Above all else, what God wants is for your life and character to be formed in the image and likeness of Jesus. When we understand this we will begin to view everything, but in particular, suffering, in a new light. Suffering becomes an opportunity to grow our faith rather than an obstacle to it. It can become an opportunity to be refined by God so we can become a person of character.
Series Big Idea: During the toughest, most tragic moments of our lives, God is with us, God loves us, and God wants to use our most trying struggles to develop a living faith within us that can withstand any circumstance.
WEEK 1 – STRUGGLE
Scripture: Exodus (specifically, Exodus 3:1-14, Exodus 13:17, Exodus 16:1-3)
Big Idea: Pain can be a helpful reminder that God is not only our Lord, but He is also our loving Father.
Week 2 – SURRENDER
Scripture: Exodus 32, Exodus 20:2-6
Big Idea: When our faith is tested, and God seems silent, rather than chasing down another way to peace, trust that the one who has been faithful will, once again, be faithful to the end.
WEEK 3 – SUBMIT
Scripture: Numbers 11, Deuteronomy 33 & 34
Big Idea: Life is not about you, but about you being a willing participant in a larger mystery, and God will use anything (including pain) to mold you in to the likeness of Christ so you can shine brightly in the story He’s writing for our world.
WEEK 4 – SERVE
Scripture: Joshua 1-3
Big Idea: God wants to use the darkest part of your life to change both you and the world.
